Got A Muffin Top? Options To Get Rid Of It

A muffin top is the fat that hangs over your jeans and pants when you button them. There is nothing you can do to hide this fat, and it can make it hard to wear tighter tops because it shows through. You can consider getting a tummy tuck, or there are exercises you can do to try to minimize it.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a cosmetic surgery that is used to make the abdomen more firm. If you decide on this surgery, you should visit a cosmetic surgeon to go over your options. During the surgery, excess skin and fat is removed from the lower and middle abdomen. This tightens up the fascia and muscle of the abdominal wall.

There are two types of tummy tucks your cosmetic surgeon may perform such as:

  • Complete Abdominoplasty: With this type of tummy tuck surgery, the surgeon cuts the abdomen from hipbone to hipbone. They then contour the muscle, tissue, and skin as needed.
  • Partial or Mini Abdominoplasty: This type of tummy tuck is less invasive than a complete tummy tuck. The surgeon will make a shorter incision above the public area. It is typically done on people who have fat deposits below their navel.

Make an appointment with a cosmetic surgeon such as Body Spectrum Plastic Surgery Center - Bruce R Barton MD if you are interested in a tummy tuck. They can answer any questions you have, and make sure you are a good candidate for it.

Plank

This exercise concentrates on your internal abdominals. These muscles are deep in your abdomen, and hold everything together. Strengthening these muscles will help you develop a slimmer waistline, including getting rid of the muffin top.

Get into a pushup position, but instead of resting your weight on your hands, rest it on your elbows by bending them. This will put the weight on your forearms. Contract your abdominal muscles as tight as you can, and hold for 30 seconds. As this becomes easier for you, hold for 45 seconds working your way up to three minutes.

Scissor Kicks

This exercise works your oblique muscles, which helps to define your waistline, and improve your posture.

Start out by lying on your back with your feet six inches off the ground. Put your hands close to your sides. Squeeze your abdominal muscles. As you are doing this, keep both your feet off the ground, and your legs out straight. Kick your feet to the ceiling one at time. Start out by kicking your left leg, and then kick your right leg. This is one repetition. Repeat this for 15 repetitions. Once you get use to this exercise, and some ankle weights.

You can get rid of your muffin top by doing these exercises daily, or if you want to get it done quicker, get a tummy tuck. Either way, you can start wearing your tighter tops again with your new flat stomach.
